Another mini quilt design

Yea!  A day off.  I am going to sew with my sister today.
This is another mini quilt I designed on EQ6 last night - even imported the fabrics choices for this one.  I purchased them a few years ago at a quilt show.  This will be my project for today.
MINI STAR QUILT - is 12" square; the star blocks are 3" each and the borders are 1.5".  There are nine different green fabrics in all.  I will have lots of fun making this...off to the Cutting Mat to start this mini!
I will post my progress tomorrow or Sunday.
Happy Sewing!

A Prim Pumpkin...

It's already Thursday and I haven't done a whole lot of sewing this week.  :( SAD!
Tomorrow is a day off and I hope spend most of the day at the sewing table!
I did create a fun little Prim Pumpkin Pattern on EQ6...

Just might have to sew him into reality!  I don't have too many browns and orange scraps so I will have to get creative...or maybe just buy some.
There are a lot of Halloween projects in my TO DO pile...oh well...here comes another!  HAHA!

Have a fun day sewing!

A crazy morning and a quilt top...

Sunday is almost over and I am glad.  I usually post on Sunday mornings but things didn't go so well this morning.  Around 4:30am I was startled by a loud boom.  Jumped out of bed, heard people screaming to call the fire dept, and police.
It seems a very large tree fell two doors down from my house and crushed 2 parked cars and hit a house and yes there was fire but thankfully no one was hurt.  Of course it took down the power lines with it!  So, no electric, no blogging, and worse of all no sewing and it was HOT...HOT...HOT!
I was up until 1:00am sewing a cute little backpack for my great nephew's first birthday which was today.  My intention was to get up early (but not at 4:30am) and make a matching crayon roll...never happened.  I also forgot to take a photo of the backpack.
Electricity came back around 7pm and all is well!

My friend Sheryl posted a photo of her glorious Shadow Box Quilt and so I thought I had better post mine.  The class was great and all the ladies had such wonderful fabrics.
This is going to be a gift for a special person!
The border is a very dark green/black print.  I had a lot of fun making this and Alice is a great teacher.
You can see Sheryl's quilt on her blog; http://downtoearthliving.blogspot.com//

Happy Stitching!

The Friendship Star Quilt

This quilt top is from a class I taught at the store.  The Friendship Star Quilt.
I have to decide if I want to add another border to make it the size for a queen bed and what type of border???  Maybe a checker board or piano key will work.
The fabric is an assortment of Thimbleberries.
In addition, how ever will I quilt this one???

Even more on the tumbler...IT'S FINISHED

I decided to stay up last night and finish the binding on the tumbler.
So...it is completed!
It might just end up as a table topper.

It feels really good to finish something.  I have a couple (dozen - haha) more to finish!

More on my tumbler quilt...

I finally decided how to finish my little tumbler quilt top.  After much thought I went back to my original plan to top stitch with a decorative blanket stitch in black.
What I like most about it is that it is perfectly NOT perfect and that makes me perfectly happy!
My not so perfect, perfect tumbler!

Here is a closer look with the backing I choose.

Now I have to decide on binding and how to hang it.
I'm thinking black or tan for the binding and tabs for hanging.

Since I am off work for a couple of days I have a lot of sewing to do so look for more to be posted soon!

Happy Sewing!

Monday Morning...

I cannot believe that it is Monday.  The Island Shop Hop was lots of fun but I must admit that I was so busy working and tired at the end of each day I didn't get any, not even a little bit, of sewing done last week.
This week WILL BE DIFFERENT!  I miss my machine and the gentle hum that I find so comforting and MUST get back to it TONIGHT!  Friday is the second half of that Shadow Box Class and I need to assemble the rest of the blocks.  I did manage to cut out all the fabric and prep for sewing.  TONIGHT!

Island Shop Hop...FUN!

Today was day one of the Island Shop Hop here on Long Island.  What FUN!!
Of course I didn't get to 'hop' because I was working but seeing all the 'hoppers' enjoying themselves was great.
The theme was "Holidays" so each of the 5 participating shops had to pick a holiday to represent.  Our store did Halloween.  Now being the huge Halloween fan that I am this was soooooooooo very much fun.  One of my co-workers is also a Halloween fan and she bought all her decorations in to set the theme.  The store looks GREAT!
This should be a really fun weekend...the shop hop ends on Sunday!

It's Sunday...

Good Morning!  It looks like today will be a hot and humid one!  I'll be inside most of the day.
First there are Rank Promotions at my husbands Karate School to attend and
then it's off to a Dance Recital.
My sister's granddaughters will be performing...my Grand Nieces!  I don't know if you have ever been to a Dance Recital with the little ones performing but it is the greatest and cutest thing to watch.  They are just adorable.  They go to a wonderful dance studio, the same one my daughter and my nieces went to.  It's like a family tradition with us!
Of course I wanted to give the little girls a gift for their wonderful performances and I figured flowers were meant to be given by Daddy so...I made them each a little "Origami Purse" I saw on this site http://www.quiltcetera.com/Tutorials/Tutorials/Origami-Instructions.html
I did change it a little by sewing the first fold corners down before I sewed the sides together.
But, they are cute.  I started with an 18" square of each fabric.
I have some really cute decorative travel tissue packs to put inside!  They should love these!

On Thursday I took a class taught by one of my co-workers.  It's for a Shadow Box quilt.
Here are a few of the blocks I have completed so far...

This is going to be a practice run before I use the fabric (Asian) set aside for this in my stash.
The main fabric here is quite old but if it comes out good will make a nice Christmas wall hanging for someone on my list!
The class was fun and learning the technique was great.  The pattern is from the book "Marvelous Miters" by Susan Cleveland.

Have a lovely day,
Colleen

A fun little quilt!

Tonight was our quild meeting and I usually submit a Block of the Month.  This month it was a red and white Lattice Block.  Well after I finished mine I had 8 little red and 8 little white triangles that were cut off the corner pieces.  I went to toss them and thought I should give them to my friend Barbara.
Then I thought I should make something with them.
So I sewed the 8 reds to the 8 white to get 8 little half square triangles.  Then I sewed them together to get 8 smaller quarter square triangles (1.5"s).  Added some little squares from the rest of the scraps and ended up with this...my first red and white quilt.  11.5" x 6.5".
I always wanted a red and white quilt and now I have one!
And the Ohio Star is my favorite quilt block!
Like all the things I do, it's not perfect but it I do like it.  It took me about 45 minutes.
Now I need to finish it.

HAPPY 4th of JULY!

Yes, this is one of my favorite times of the year...seeing all those beautiful American Flags flying high and blowing in the breeze!  For many years that sight has been one that brings tears to my eyes.  I don't know what it is about the American Flag and all it's glory that does this to me
but it happens everytime!

I had a great week spending time with my grandson; playing, laughing, and hugging.
He is so cute and yes, I am partial!  :))
What a smile...and this profile - gets me everytime!  I love it!

And, the Funky Fish is complete...

My daughter cannot wait to hang this in his room.  He, on the other hand just looked at it and walked away!
Oh well!  I bet he wishes it were a turtle...maybe there is another little wall hanging to do in the future?  MAYBE, JUST MAYBE!

Please have a safe and fun July 4th Celebration!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
